Not Just Another Old Bag

Since many stores are reporting dismal apparel sales, designers are pushing their accessories more than ever. Several big Italian brands have tapped apparel designers to spiff up their bags and shoes. Tod's has employed Derek Lam for several seasons and the collection of streamlined shoes and bags, above, he showed for them earlier in the week in Milan was his best yet. Today Ferragamo announced a partnership with Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. The line will feature seven styles, including a men's brogue, an urban hiking boot and a red rubber soled boot that will debut on Yohji's runway tomorrow night. One of the big surprise hits in Milan was the capsule accessory collection Donatella Versace collaborated on with Brit designer Christopher Kane for the relaunch of Versus. Capturing the current 1980s mood, the line has enough crystal studded gladiator sandals, clutches and chokers to bring back bling.
