Is That Really Pucci?

You would never know it, but the collection Peter Dundas showed yesterday for the iconic Pucci brand was inspired by late Emilio Pucci's 1957 Palio collection. If you look closely at the photo on the left you might catch a glimpse of a printed mini-dress underneath the enormous parka. The colors are muted olive greens and off white, hardly reminiscent of the famous Siena horse race and it's bright graphic 16th century banners. Well, designers are allowed their own interpretation, certainly, and Dundas knows how to drill down into the fashion moment with his 1980s-inspired giant fur-trimmed parkas and skinny cargo pants. This show also had some of the only major evening dresses to be seen so far in Milan. But there is something to be said for honoring the heritage of a brand and Pucci certainly has a rich archive of magnificent prints. Maybe Dundas is saving them for next spring.
