Where Luxury Still Lives

"Don't talk to me about accessible luxury!" said Sergio Loro Piana in his company's showroom yesterday. "This is personal, it is only for one person." Loro Piana was talking about the presentation he chose to showcase the depth of personal service and quality that this anti-frills brand offers. Instead of the usual lineup of new fall products, visitors were treated to a panoply of custom services--from bespoke suits offered up in over 1500 fabrics to vicuna and baby cashmere overcoats accented in fur and even decorating fabrics for yachts or private jets. Ties can be hand woven with the customer's name woven--not embroidered--into the inside and even cashmere sweaters can be ordered with personalized details like longer sleeves, specific necklines. Where Loro Piana strikes the right note for these times is in it's discretion. There are no logos, and who will know that your yacht's crew wears vicuna-lined windbreakers?
