Michael Kors show review

Isaac Mizrahi isn't going to be happy about this, but I really liked Michael Kors.

Sure, it was a little preppy and staid, but I totally felt the modern 60s surfer wear. I loved the yellow, the gingham, the big red-and-white polka dot dresses, the dresses that looked like they were made out of blue wetsuits. The black lycra one piece bathingsuit with the back and sides of the midriff cut out was great, as was the navy-and-white cotton jersey pinstripe strapless dress.

I'd wear that men's black-and-white gingham button-up shirt all the time. And the gingham pants a lot of the time. And I wish I could wear that yellow blazer. But not the floral print pants.

Kors is also the only designer to use a model who had breasts. I think it was just one model, but stil, very daring.

The thing is, when I was talking about the collection to the big time fashion editors, thinking they'd obviously have loved this one, they shook their head at me like I was an idiot.

"Why did you like it?" one said.

"Because it was fun, sexy and cool," I chirpily replied.

"Those are the three things we hate: fun, sexy and cool. We like moody and subversive."

Then the editor started to tell me how great the Marc Jacobs show was. When I asked the editor which outift was so great, the editor said - I swear- "it's not about the clothes."

I told the editor I could not talk about this anymore.

Then the editor explained that shows are about inventing new concepts and creating feelings and ideas. Again, I said I could not discuss this anymore.

But I think he's right. Designers are artists and super-rich women buy the runway outfits for the same reason super-rich people buy art: so other super-rich people can see that they are super-rich.

Michael Kors makes clothes for people who want to look good. Apparently, that makes him a bad designer. Very confusing.
