Front Row Faces

Polly Blitzer

My colleague in Paris, Sarah Larenaudie, says that I should do a little more explaining on this blog for non-fashion people about how this crazy business works and what exactly all these people are doing in the front row. So I will try to incorporate a little bit of that information as we go along. Aside from the usual combo of fashion editors and celebrities, every once in a while you meet a surprising person in the front row. At the Carolina Herrera show yesterday I met a young Internet entrepreneur named Polly Blitzer (great name). She used to be a beauty editor at In Style Magazine and now she is launching a beauty website called www.beautyblitz.com. I guess you could say she is an expert in all things beauty since she was able to identify the exact color of the nail polish on my toes as we were sitting there. I took her photo right after the show and accidentally prevented her from getting the crucial sound bite from Renee Zellweger who was cruising backstage surrounded by bodyguards. Sorry Polly!
It's interesting that young women like Polly would venture out on their own in these iffy economic times. There is the argument that a difficult economy brings out the most creative ideas. That could also explain Marc Jacobs' over-the-top collection last night.
