Thakoon show review

I felt like this was the show to be at. In some small Chelsea loft space, standing room only, runway just a cleared space between aisles, Anna Wintour across from me, some designer I'd never heard of.

These designs seemed cool, with lots of exposed midriffs. I felt a little bit like the models were waitresses at an overpriced Asian restaurant in Los Angeles, but that's not such a bad thing.

I like that he redid the Macintosh in a "lightweight khaki mac" that was hip and sexy. The bodice dresses were nice, and he kept showing these "knickers" with chiffon and tulle bras that I thought did indeed work well as outerwear. Though I'm from New Jersey.

My wife is a textile designer, but I'm wary of prints and I think the two Thakoon kept using didn't work: red roses and eyelashes. Big, black eyelashes printed everywhere. Fake eyelashes make me sad, so maybe it's that. Or maybe it's just that big black eyelashes on a white dress are dumb as hell.

Also, some outfits looked just like some unsexy, Japanese take on the schoolgirl outfit, like the model was going straight from private school to work at a fake office. He called one "Orchid kisses Georgette cardigan; black chiffon men's shirt; orchid kisses Georgette pintuck skirt." I call it "your hipster gay friends might like it, but you're not going to get a date."
