Shopping Bags

Elie and Rory Tahari

This is the weekend when fashion professionals from all over the world descend on New York City and shop the stores. They're not shopping in the traditional sense—buying for themselves—they're looking to see what's out there and who is buying what and to fondle the merch. It's a familiar sight to see a couple of Italian designers or manufacturers studying the seams on a Lanvin dress, or examining the fabrication of a coat on the 3rd floor at Barneys. Designers, retailers, and fashion journalists also love to talk about shopping, especially in the height of this all-important fall season. At the Elie Tahari presentation in the Four Seasons restaurant Pool Room yesterday, I was talking catching up with Elie's wife, Rory, who is a serious shopper. “McQueen looks really good this season,” she said, apropos of nothing. Then she went on and on about Lanvin. (Every time I see her she's wearing Elie Tahari, though, so I don't know where she stashes all these purchases).

Lanvin

On Fifth Avenue this morning I couldn't help but notice this Lanvin bag in the window at Bergdorf Goodman. Cranberry is the color of the season for bags. Mulberry had a pretty great looking one in their window, too. But I am not shopping.
